 "The Mantle of the Presidency"
December 5, 2001

The mantle of the Presidency has been weighted with the horror that was 9-11. How has George W. Bush shouldered that extra weight? In times of uncertainty it is critical that the President be seen as caring and capable. In a poll of 1200 Americans, Strategic Vision found that the President has done an outstanding job showing that he cares (89% - "Describes President George W. Bush") and is giving people confidence (82%). Caring and confidence has helped create an 80% overall approval rating with 77% agreeing he is heading the right direction. Most Americans feel George W. Bush is carrying the extra burden well.

The survey was part of an-going cross section of Americans initiated in 1979. To date over 15,000 responses have been gathered to core value questions. The survey measures the emotional climate and core values of Americans for government and business. Strategic Vision, Inc. is a California Corporation, founded by Dr. Darrel Edwards, J. Susan Johnson, and Sharon Shedroff -- all psychologists.

Dr. Edwards is the founder of ValueCentered Psychology. ValueCentered Psychology defines the relationship between our personal values like security, trust, freedom or esteem and those things and behaviors that are the sites for satisfying our needs, like family, country or justice. "These links define our priorities and determine our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors," reports Dr. Edwards. We all want security. Where do we look? That is the key issue in times of crisis.

The current portion of the survey was initiated by Dr. Edwards and conducted by phone between September 25th and November 2nd.
